Weather in Nepal: Nepal's climate varies greatly due to its diverse topography and altitude, leading to a wide range of weather conditions throughout the country. The climate is typically divided into four seasons: spring, summer, autumn, and winter.

Spring, which spans from March to May, offers an ideal opportunity to visit Nepal thanks to its pleasant and mild weather. Temperatures range from 16°C to 23°C (61°F to 73°F) at lower elevations, with cooler temperatures at higher altitudes. The current season is perfect for trekking, with clear skies and beautiful rhododendron forests in full bloom. Mountaineering expeditions are popular now too. In Nepal, heavy rainfall and occasional landslides happen during the summer season (June-August) due to the monsoon, especially in the lower regions. Despite the rain, some areas can still reach 30°C (86°F). The greenery and rice terraces are stunning this season.

The best time to visit Nepal is during autumn, which spans from September to November. After the monsoon season, the skies have cleared up, revealing stunning mountain views. The weather is consistently mild, with temperatures ranging from 15°C to 24°C (59°F to 75°F). The pleasant climate and breathtaking scenery make it the peak season for trekking, cultural tours, and wildlife safaris. Kathmandu and Pokhara, situated at lower elevations, experience milder temperatures ranging from 9°C to 12°C (48°F to 54°F). Winter is ideal for lower-altitude treks, cultural tours, and wildlife safaris in the Terai region.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What sets Bardiya National Park apart in terms of wildlife diversity compared to other parks in Nepal?

Bardiya National Park distinguishes itself from other parks with its unspoilt wilderness, diverse ecosystems, and thriving wildlife. Renowned for its significant population of Royal Bengal Tigers, one-horned rhinoceros, and rich birdlife such as Black-necked Stork and Great Hornbill, the park provides a unique and serene wildlife encounter. The smaller number of tourists and successful community-driven conservation efforts make it a standout among other protected areas for experiencing its authenticity. Also, this park has a total of 125 adult tigers, increasing the chance to spot them compared to other protected areas.

  • Are there seasonal wildlife migration patterns in these parks?

Chitwan and Bardia are crucial wetlands for migratory birds during their wildlife migration. The parks showcase unique seasonal wildlife migration patterns. In Chitwan, winter attracts wildlife around water resources, and spring attracts birds like waterfowl, Brahminy ducks, pintails, bar-headed geese, cormorants, and Siberian birds.  Bardiya follows a similar pattern, with optimal wildlife observation in spring and winter, where the migratory birds are the Northern Shoveler and the Indian Pond Heron. The winter migratory birds migrate to avoid the extreme cold, and the summer migratory birds migrate to avoid extreme heat.

  • What endangered wildlife can be found in Chitwan National Park?

While Chitwan National Park is home to different wildlife, there are various endangered species ranging from mammals, amphibians, reptiles, and birds. The endangered animals are the One-horned rhinoceros, the Gaur, the Royal Bengal tiger, the Wild elephant, the Four-horned antelope, the Pangolin, the Golden monitor lizard, the Python, the Wild Water Buffalo, and the Gharial crocodile. The largest number of one-horned rhinos can be found here among the protected areas of Nepal. Similarly, the endangered birds include the Bengal Florican, Slender-Billed Vulture, and Egyptian Vulture. Endangered aquatic species are also found here, such as carp and catfish.

  • When is the best time to visit Nepal for a wildlife tour?

The ideal time for wildlife tours in Nepal is during the dry seasons of autumn (September to November) and winter (December to February), which offer the most favourable conditions for wildlife observation. In autumn, the weather is generally clear, and the vegetation is not as dense, making it easier to spot wildlife. Animals are also more active during this time.

  • What to expect from the Chitwan Village Tour?

A Chitwan Village Tour offers an immersive experience of Nepali culture, featuring a warm welcome from the Tharu community. Immerse yourself in their old customs, and dance performances during your dinner. Explore the intricacies of local agriculture, craftsmanship, and their daily way of life. You will also get a chance to use local transportation, such as a traditional Bulock cart, for a village tour.
