Weather in Nepal

Nepal's climate varies greatly due to its diverse topography and altitude, leading to a wide range of weather conditions throughout the country. The climate is typically divided into four seasons: spring, summer, autumn, and winter.

Spring, which spans from March to May, offers an ideal opportunity to visit Nepal thanks to its pleasant and mild weather. Temperatures range from 16°C to 23°C (61°F to 73°F) at lower elevations, with cooler temperatures at higher altitudes. The current season is perfect for trekking, with clear skies and beautiful rhododendron forests in full bloom. Mountaineering expeditions are popular now too. In Nepal, heavy rainfall and occasional landslides happen during the summer season (June-August) due to the monsoon, especially in the lower regions. Despite the rain, some areas can still reach 30°C (86°F). The greenery and rice terraces are stunning this season.

The best time to visit Nepal is during autumn, which spans from September to November. After the monsoon season, the skies have cleared up, revealing stunning mountain views. The weather is consistently mild, with temperatures ranging from 15°C to 24°C (59°F to 75°F). The pleasant climate and breathtaking scenery make it the peak season for trekking, cultural tours, and wildlife safaris. Kathmandu and Pokhara, situated at lower elevations, experience milder temperatures ranging from 9°C to 12°C (48°F to 54°F). Winter is ideal for lower-altitude treks, cultural tours, and wildlife safaris in the Terai region.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Are both bungee jumping and rafting safe?

Yes, it is as both activities need to have legalized licenses and permits from the government of Nepal and the National Safety Council to conduct those activities. Due to well-equipped professional instructors, safety guidelines, and proven experience in conducting those activities, both activities are proven to be safe in Nepal.

  • What are the permits required for the trek?

You are required to have an Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP) and the Trekkers Information Management System (TIMS) for the Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek, as it lies in the Annapurna Conservation Area. The ACAP was launched in 1986 AD to cover the negative impacts of tourism activity inside the Annapurna Conservation Area, which was the largest undertaking of the National Trust for Nature Conservation (NTNC). The ACAP and TIMS are needed to enter permit details at all counters along the trail.

  • What kind of amenities are provided during the trek?

During the trek, you will visit rural and village areas where facilities are limited compared to urban areas. You will get basic amenities such as comfortable beds, clean rooms, and good food along the trail. As you go higher in altitude during your trek, the amenities besides the basics include wifi, electricity, and hot showers, which will cost you an extra add-on according to the local lodge or tea house policy.

  • Are there any health and age restrictions for bungee and rafting in Nepal?

These activities may not be suitable for individuals with weak hearts due to their adrenaline-inducing nature. Pregnant ladies are to avoid the activity. Additionally, one must weigh between 45 kg and 95 kg to do the jump in Kushma. For age, the minimum age for bungee jumping is 12 years, and a guardian consent signature is required for persons under 18 years. Anyone over the age of 5 is free to enjoy the raft while following the rafting guidelines.

  • What mountains are seen from Ghorepani Poon hill?

Ghorepani Poonhill is the ultimate viewpoint, as it boasts a panoramic view of the lofty mountains above 8,000 m and the surrounding hills. Poonhill is at an altitude of 3,210 m, where you will hike for 45 minutes from Ghorepani to Poonhill viewpoint for an early sunrise view surrounded by the Himalayas. You will get mesmerising views of Mt. Annapurna, Mt. Dhaulagiri, Mt. Machhapuchhre, Mt. Himchuli, Mt. Nilgiri, and other mountain peaks. It's a picturesque mountain view to die for.
