Delhi- The Captial City

Delhi, the bustling capital of India, is known for its rich historical heritage, vibrant markets, and diverse cultural landscape, making it a prominent travel destination. Delhi, being an essential component of the Golden Triangle Tour, offers a fusion of ancient and modern elements. Ancient monuments and high-rise modern architecture are examples of historical beauty clothed in modern elegance. It is best known for its hectic rush and bustle, but there's more to it than that. Here, you'll find a relaxing rhythm amid the turmoil that makes it feel like a home-like environment, welcoming individuals from all walks of life. During your sightseeing programme, you will explore and see some of the most prominent places, beginning with the Red Fort, which is significant to both locals and tourists as a representation of India's rich history and cultural legacy. The stunning fortress was constructed in the mid-17th century by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan and was the primary residence for almost two centuries. The red sandstone walls of the red fort span over two kilometres, surrounding a magnificent complex of palaces, gardens, and pavillions that showcases the pinnacle of Mughal architectural excellence.

Next is the Jama Masjid, one of India’s most well-known and significant landmarks, celebrated for its magnificent architecture and rich historical significance. The mosque was built between 1644 and 1656 by Shah Jahan. It is one of the largest mosques in India, with the capacity to accommodate over 25,000 worshippers. Besides being one of the greatest mosques, it is also popular for its intricate design, spacious courtyard, and impressive domes. Another one is Chandni Chowk, situated in the bustling heart of Delhi and one of the oldest and most active markets in the city. Jahanara Begum, the daughter of Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in the 17th century, originally designed it. The market is renowned for its wide range of products, which includes traditional Indian clothing, jewelry, electrons, and a wide variety of spices and street food that showcases the region's vibrant culinary heritage. Next is Raj Ghat, which holds great significance and is well known as a memorial to Mahatma Gandhi, who is widely regarded as the father of the Indian nation. It is located on the banks of the Yamuna River, where his last rituals were placed. Moreover, Raj Ghat is encompassed by exquisite gardens and trees, creating a peaceful atmosphere that invites contemplation and recollection.

India Gate, another important and iconic monument located in the heart of Delhi, has enormous historical and cultural significance, making it a popular draw for both locals and tourists. This landmark is a tribute to the Indian soldiers who lost their lives while serving in the British Army during World War I and the Third Anglo-Afghan War. Another one is Humayun's Tomb, which is known for its profound historical importance and magnificent architectural beauty. It is the first garden tomb on the Indian subcontinent with a unique distinction, setting a precedent for subsequent Mughal architecture, including the iconic Taj Mahal. The tomb is located in a charbagh, which is a four quadrant garden that represents paradise in Islamic culture. Last but not least is Qutub Minar, a historic monument built in the early 13th century by Qutub-ud-din Aibak. Standing at 73 metres, the tallest brick minaret in the world is renowned for its exquisite carving and inscription. This place is a must-visit to witness the historical beauty of the past.

Lastly is Mehtab Bagh, a renowned historical garden that is celebrated for its stunning view as it has a dazzling backdrop of the Taj Mahal. It was built in the 16th century by Emperor Babur, the founder of the Mughal Empire, and is one of the eleven parks on the east bank of the Yamuna River. The layout of the garden showcases geometric patterns, fountains, and a diverse range of flora, which has become the essence of Mughal garden design.

The Himalayan region boasts amazing mountain ranges and cooler climates in the northern areas. The southeastern region is adjacent to the Bay of Bengal, while the southwestern region is bordered by the Arabian Sea.

India boasts a unique geography, characterised by varying elevations that greatly influence the temperature and climate. Therefore, when travelling to India, it is essential to pack appropriate and comfortable light clothing that suits the different seasons. When it comes to packing clothing items, it's best to option for layered garments instead of thick ones. Layered clothing offers more versatility and comfort compared to a few bulky items. It's important to consider the season you're travelling in to ensure you pack appropriately.

  • Travel for experience, not for the sake of travelling.
  • Remember to carry good sunscreen, as you will be exposed to sun, which can be quite intense.
  • Don’t litter; put trash in its place.
